Rousseff wins first round in 15 states, and Neves, in ten

By the end of the first round of voting in Brazil's presidential elections, candidates Dilma Rousseff (Workers' Party, PT) and Aécio Neves (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB)

By the end of the first round of voting in Brazil's presidential elections, candidates Dilma Rousseff (Workers' Party, PT) and Aécio Neves (Brazilian Social Democracy Party, PSDB), who will face off in the second round on October 26, have been the choice of voters in 25 states. The best voted on 15 states, Rousseff ended up with 41.59% of the country's total vote. Neves was the first choice in ten states, and had 33.55% of all valid votes throughout Brazil.

 

Marina Silva (Brazilian Socialist Party, PSB) won only in her native Acre and in Pernambuco, and finished third with 21.32% off the total national vote.

 

The ruling president running for re-election, Rousseff won in Alagoas, Amapá, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Maranhão, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraiba, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Sergipe, and Tocantins.

 

The opposition's candidate, Aécio Neves, won in the Federal District, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, and São Paulo – the latter being the constituency with the largest voter population, where he obtained 44.2% of valid votes.
