“The oil and gas value chain – from operators and service providers to regulatory bodies and academia – will take a deeper dive into topics already discussed in the 2022 edition, while also addressing the challenges of reducing emissions and decarbonizing operations. With sessions on CCUS, decarbonization, and a just energy transition, we’ll have the opportunity to advance a conversation that is critical to the long-term sustainability of our industry,” says Priscila Moczydlower, Sustainability Director at SPE Brazil and Chair of the Symposium’s Executive Committee.
The opening ceremony of the SPE Brazil Sustainability Symposium 2025 will be led by Jaime Naveiro, R&D Manager for Energy Transition and Sustainability at Cenpes/Petrobras. The session will feature key industry voices: Letícia Andrade, VP of Renewables Business Development at Equinor; Tabita Loureiro, Technical Director at PPSA; and Viviana Coelho, Executive Manager for Climate and Decarbonization at Petrobras. “This opening session reflects the importance of this event, which brings together stakeholders from across the oil and gas value chain. Everyone in this industry has a vital role to play in building a more sustainable future for the sector—one that will be central to the energy transition, energy security, and the country’s sustainable socioeconomic development,” highlights Naveiro.
Over the course of two days, speakers from various organizations will lead discussions across five key sessions, covering topics such as energy efficiency, decarbonization, emerging low-carbon technologies like carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and the broader energy transition. The symposium will conclude with the inaugural Gaia Award Brazil ceremony.
“Discussing sustainability in the oil and gas sector is not just necessary—it’s urgent. Our role is to bring the entire value chain to the heart of this conversation, aiming for solutions that balance economic development, environmental responsibility, and social equity. I often say I believe more in energy diversification than in a strict 'transition.' We need a plural energy matrix, where different sources coexist intelligently and sustainably. Tomorrow’s event is an invitation to collectively reflect on how our industry can contribute to this balance—with responsibility and innovation,” concludes Anna Paula Lougon, President of the SPE Brazil Section.
Promoted by the SPE Brazil Section and the SPE Gaia Sustainability Program, the SPE Brazil Sustainability Symposium 2025 is proudly sponsored by Equinor (Diamond Sponsor), Galp and PRIO (Gold Sponsors), and TN Petróleo (Media Partner).
