The latest issue of the Review shows that the national consumption of electricity was 44,462 GWh in September 2023, a 5.2% increase compared to the same month in 2022, marking the highest growth since August 2021. Residential (+9.1%) and commercial (+8.5%) sectors stand out, leading the consumption surge, while the industrial sector also contributed (+1.9%).

Over the 12-month period, the national consumption reached 520,210 GWh, a 2.3% increase compared to the immediate prior period. Once again, record-breaking temperatures for the month boosted consumption, and an improvement in consumer confidence might have contributed. Concerning the contracting environment, in September, the free market accounted for 40.8% of the national electricity consumption, with 18,135 GWh, reflecting a 6.8% consumption growth and a 24.4% increase in the number of consumers compared to September 2022. On the other hand, the captive market of the distributors, with 26,327 GWh, represented 59.2% of the national electricity consumption, marking a 4.1% increase, while the number of consumer units rose by 1.9% in the same period.
