The second edition of Tomorrow Blue Economy Niterói will take place at Caminho Niemeyer on November 26 and 27, with an estimated audience of over 3,000 participants gathering to discuss the future of the blue economy. Organized by iCities, in partnership with the City of Niterói and under the endorsement of Fira Barcelona, the event is an official activity of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, known as Ocean Decade, a global alliance led by UNESCO to promote knowledge, innovation and sustainability for the ocean ecosystem through actions and events held between 2021 and 2030.

In addition to the main exhibition and conference, a series of pre-event activities will take place starting November 15, designed to engage Niterói’s residents through sports, environmental awareness and innovation. Among the highlights is the Blue Running, a 5-kilometer street race on November 16, bringing together athletes and ocean enthusiasts in a celebration of sustainability and marine life. The route starts and finishes at Icaraí Beach, passing through Boa Viagem Beach. From November 15 to 23, the Blue Waves Circuit will feature educational, cultural and community engagement initiatives focused on ocean preservation and the blue economy, across five traditional fishing communities: Ilha da Conceição, Itaipu, Jurujuba, Ponta da Areia and Piratininga.

“Currently, Tomorrow Blue Economy not only positions Brazil as a leading voice in the blue economy debate but also aligns with UNESCO’s global agenda to promote the sustainable use of marine resources and strengthen the connection between science, entrepreneurship, society, and the environment,” says Caio Castro, CEO of iCities.

The Congress

With international content curation, the event will host over 40 national and international speakers on its main stage, as well as two other stages: the Ocean Stage and the Blue Gastronomy Stage, a new addition for the second edition, dedicated to maritime cuisine.
The program covers a wide range of topics including innovation, sustainability, renewable energy, coastal and regenerative tourism, offshore expansion, and public policy for sustainable coastal development.

Featured speakers include Ricardo Gomes, biologist and president of the Instituto Mar Urbano, who will discuss “The Impact of Green Values on the Blue Economy”; José Aguilar Manjarrez, Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer at FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization) for Latin America and the Caribbean, who will present “Aquaculture, Fisheries, and the Foundations of Coastal Prosperity”; and María José González Fuster, Executive Director of MAR Fund, who will explore “Waves of Opportunity: Financing the Future of Ocean Innovation.”
