Wind energy production in Brazil grew 55% in the first six months of the year. With 2,860 MW, the performance of the operation in power plants in the National Interconnected System - SIN was 1,018 MW higher than in the same 2015 period, when it reached a total of 1,842 MW, to data from the Electric Energy Trading Chamber - CCEE.

At the end of the first semester, the 366 wind farms operating in the system reached 9,330 MW in installed capacity, ie, an increase of 50% compared to June last year's figures (6,211 MW), when there were 244 projects in operation in the country.

The figures of the first semester consolidate the leadership of Rio Grande do Norte that remains the main wind energy producer in Brazil. The Potiguar plants produced 911 MW in the period, a 40% increase over the first six months of 2015.

The analysis shows the state of Bahia in second place with 599 MW (+ 47.5%), followed by Rio Grande do Sul, which reached 479 average MW (+ 66.6%) and Ceará with 456 average MW (+25 7%) produced in the first half.

The CCEE data also confirm the Rio Grande do Norte state with the largest installed capacity of power plants of this source, a total of 2,773 MW, a 32% increase over the same period last year. Next came Bahia with 1,750 MW (+ 82%), Ceará with 1,733 MW (+ 33%) and Rio Grande do Sul with 1,515 MW (+ 17%).
