During the last 12 months, new processes and solutions were developed and implemented in the Port of Itaqui, as a result of corporate education work. This is the Farol Program, a partnership between EMAP (Maranhense Port Administration Company) and Fapema (Maranhão Scientific and Technological Research and Development Support Foundation) to produce Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) projects.

With the support of Creative Pack, an innovation consultancy focused on process automation and HR, a corporate education program for innovation was carried out with port residents using live content, mentoring and team management services with agile ceremonies, favoring the culture of innovation at EMAP. Now the fruits of this initiative are being reaped, the residents were responsible for training more than 100 people, EMAP management employees and nine companies in the port complex of São Luís, in Maranhão.

The company is responsible for one of the largest public ports in Brazil, Porto do Itaqui. Creative Pack led the management of the program, operating with a complete model of corporate education for innovation and using its own innovation method, the Howl method, to develop the internal solutions. The training focused on three pillars: innovation culture journey, agile management journey and innovation management journey.

One of the solutions created was for the Financial Management (Gefin). Using Power BI, this intelligent database was built, which contributed to reducing by 92% the use of tables in the financial control of the contemplated companies, also resulting in the optimization of the time spent in generating reports. Another solution created is Smart Stop, in the logistics area, where all operational stops were standardized and the systems integrated with port operators, optimizing operational data and reducing operational times and costs.

The program was also successful in terms of research, transforming the results obtained in practice into theory. During this period, five scientific articles were produced, approved and published in the annals of the ninth edition of the International Congress on Port Performance, one of the main academic events in the sector. In addition, the Farol Program won the Ser Humano Award, from the Brazilian Association of Human Resources of Maranhão (ABRH-MA), in 2022. The case was included in the Public Sector Organization category.

The results and knowledge generated were recorded in an innovation playbook, developed by Creative Pack as a form of legacy, so that all learning remains within EMAP and facilitates the transmission of valuable information to other employees who will be in the company. In this way, the culture of innovation remains in the company's DNA.

According to Gabriel Cassia, Head of Innovation Porto do Itaqui, when well planned and executed, a corporate education program can offer many benefits to a company, as observed in this program. “The FAROL program has two objectives, to bring innovative solutions to the Port of Itaqui and to train local labor specialized in innovation. For this, it was essential to have the support of Creative Pack. Today we already have many solutions delivered and in full operation in the company, in addition to several workshops conducted by this team, which have been transforming the culture of Porto do Itaqui”, he says.
