The consolidated statistical data on the evolution of the oil, natural gas and biofuels sector in Brazil in 2016 is now available on ANP's website. The charts and tables can be found at: http://www.anp.gov.br/wwwanp/ Publications / statistical yearbook / 3819-yearbook-statistic-2017.

According to the data, domestic oil production grew by 3.2% for the third consecutive year and reached 2.5 million barrels per day. The main reason for the increase was the pre-salt oil supply, which reached an average of 1.0 million barrels per day in the year, after a 33.1% annual change. The national production of natural gas increased by 7.9% to 103.8 million m³ / day.

The pre-salt natural gas production continues to increase its participation in the national total and corresponded to 38.2% in 2016. The results obtained in the pre-salt reinforce the attractiveness of the blocks of this geological horizon to be offered in the next rounds of bidding, With a calendar approved by the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) for the next three years.

As a reflection of the higher national production, in 2016 Brazil reduced its oil import requirement by 44.9%, to an average of 178.6 thousand barrels / day, while exports reached the highest value in the historical series, 798.2 thousand Barrels / day, an annual increase of 8.3%.

In the domestic market, sales of derivatives by distributors registered a decline of 2.5%. Sales of diesel oil decreased by 5.1%, in contrast with the 4.6% increase in sales of gasoline C. The sale of hydrous ethanol had a reduction of 18.1%.

In turn, domestic production of oil products was 6.3% lower than 2015, reaching 2.0 million barrels per day. As a result, the volume of imports of derivatives grew 10.1% to 488.1 thousand barrels per day. Despite this, due to the reduction of international prices, there was a decrease of 15.2% in import expenditure.

The growth in imports reflected a greater diversification of the agents responsible for the domestic supply of fuels, which, in turn, tends to contribute to the expansion of investment opportunities in storage and handling infrastructure for oil, oil products and biofuels.

In the biofuels sector, total ethanol production fell by 4.1% and biodiesel production was 3.5% lower than the previous year, due to the reduction of fuel consumption.

The amount generated from government participation reached R$ 17.7 billion in 2016, of which R$ 11.8 billion in royalties and R$ 5.9 billion in special participation. The volume of bonds related to investments in research, development and innovation (P,D&I) was R$ 862 million.
