The English version of the tables and charts containing consolidated data on the evolution of Brazil's oil, natural gas, and biofuels sectors in 2024 is now available on ANP’s website. The data in Portuguese had previously been published by the Agency on June 30.

The Portuguese version has also been updated with Section 1 – International Overview, which includes data on oil and natural gas reserves, production, consumption, and prices in other countries.

In 2024, there was growth in both total and proven reserves of oil and natural gas. National oil production saw a slight decrease of 1%, reaching 3.4 million barrels per day, while natural gas production increased by 2.5%—the 15th consecutive year of growth—reaching 153.2 million m³/day. Pre-salt production increased its share of total national output, accounting for 78.8% of oil and 16.7% of natural gas production.

In the biofuels sector, production increased by 20.4% for biodiesel and 4.2% for ethanol. Hydrous ethanol became more price-competitive compared to gasoline, resulting in a 33.9% increase in sales over the year.

Domestic production of oil products also grew by 1.2% in 2024, reaching 2.2 million barrels per day—equivalent to 86.4% of the country’s installed refining capacity. Sales of oil products by distributors rose by 0.6%.

In 2024, the volume of obligations under the Research, Development, and Innovation (RD&I) clause in oil and gas exploration and production contracts reached R$ 4.2 billion, an 8.5% increase over the previous year. Government take reached R$ 98.9 billion, up 2% compared to the previous year.
