Atvos concluded in March the certification of its eight operating units at RenovaBio. With an average energy efficiency score of 60 gCO2 / MJ, almost all of the sugarcane produced was audited and, with that, the company will have the potential to issue around 2.3 million decarbonization credits (CBIOs) in the year 2020/21 harvest, which has already started.

"We are ready to contribute to RenovaBio. The success of the program will represent an effective action in the fight against global warming, will boost an energy matrix of cleaner transport and, consequently, will improve the air quality in Brazilian cities. The whole society benefits" , emphasizes Amaury Pekelman, vice president of institutional relations and sustainability.

The expectation is to generate more than 100 thousand pre-CBIOs for the months of February and March.

The company has five production hubs located in the states of São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás and has been operating since 2007 in the production of ethanol, VHP sugar and electricity from sugarcane biomass. In the 2018/2019 harvest, the company crushed 26.7 million tons of cane, enough to produce 2.08 billion liters of ethanol (anhydrous and hydrated), 212 thousand tons of VHP sugar and 2.8 GWh of electricity ( 1.8 GWh are exportable).

In the qualification process, the average eligibility of Atvos units was 98%, that is, data from almost all raw materials were considered, adding own and third party sugarcane. This allows to cover practically all the ethanol production produced by the company.

"We only achieved this breadth by having incorporated, since 2012, the management of carbon dioxide emissions in the entire production process. Renovabio represents another incentive to improve the environmental performance of our products", explains Amaury.

All units of the company have goals to reduce Carbon Intensity (CI), an indicator that measures the volume of equivalent carbon dioxide emissions for each unit of energy generated. In total, Atvos prevented 5.5 million tons of carbon dioxide from being released in the 2019/2020 harvest.

Considering the energy efficiency (SEN) and eligibility scores of all units, the company is authorized to issue, on average, a decarbonization credit (CBIO) for each 787 liters of ethanol produced.
