Brazil GDP sees 0.87% quarterly growth in April

Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 0.87% in the quarter ending in April, compared to the quarter ending in January, according to the GDP Monitor published by Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV). The figures were released in Rio de Janeiro today (June 21). Compared to the quarter ending in April 2016, the GDP was 0.8% smaller.

 

The year-over-year comparison for the quarter ending in April revealed a decrease in household consumption (-1.9%) and gross fixed capital formation, i.e. investment (-4.6%). Exports rose 1.4% over the period, and imports also increased (4.5%).

 

According to FGV, considering the month of April alone, GDP was 0.42% larger than in March, but 1.3% smaller than in April 2016.
