Brazil was one of the highlights of this year's World Energy Outlook 2013 catalog, annual publication of the International Energy Agency (IEA), which presents the analytical perspectives on trends in energy markets. According to the executive director of the IEA, Maria van der Hoeven, the focus in Brazil is due to the fact that the country is a candidate to become in the coming decades, a major oil exporters and the world leader in energy production.
"In 2035, Brazil will have stopped importing gas and oil, becoming the exporter of both products. The country is an emerging force in the production of gas and will be among the leaders of oil exploration in deep water and development [energy sources] of low-carbon", said Mary during the launch of the catalog.
According to the catalog, in 2035, oil production in Brazil will triple, reaching 6 million barrels per day, which corresponds to one third of the net growth forecast for world oil production. With this, the country will reach the sixth position among the major producers. The production of natural gas have increased during this period by more than five times. In 2030, the country will not need to import the product.
According to the report, the sources of energy are "abundant and diverse" in Brazil. This will sustain an increase of 80 % of energy use. To account for the increase in consumption predicted by the needs of the expanding middle class and succeed in implementing the project of universal access to electricity - goal of Light for All Program - will need to invest on average $ 90 billion per year throughout the power system.
A world leader in renewable energies, Brazil "nearly double" this production from renewable sources in 2035, maintaining its 43% share of the national energy matrix. The projection of the IEA , the backbone of the sector will remain the power generation from hydroelectric plants, although the dependence on this source tends to decline "in part due to the remoteness and environmental sensitivity of many remaining resources, mainly located in the Amazon".
Among the sources of generation will increase more shares in the energy matrix are wind power, which the agency has demonstrated competitiveness, natural gas and electricity generated by bioenergy.
