The Brazilian natural gas production reached 95.8 million cubic meters per day (m³/d) in April, up 6% compared with the previous month, and up 1.5% compared with April last year.

Data were released today (Jun. 2) by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP) and also indicate that the country's total production of oil and natural gas in April reached 2.893 million of barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Considering the oil only, about 2,290 million barrels were produced per day, up 1.1% compared with the previous month. However, the production dropped 4.3%, compared with April last year.

Offshore oil fields produced 93.3% of all oil extracted in national fields and 76% of natural gas. The oil was extracted from a total of 8,925 oil wells—761 sea oil wells and 8,164 land oil wells.

Pre-salt

The Pre-salt Santos Basin—sedimentary basin located in the Brazilian continental shelf, bordered in the north by the Campos Basin, bounded by the Cabo Frio arch (Rio de Janeiro), and in the south by the Pelotas Basin, bounded by the Florianópolis High—, with 56 drilling wells, extracted a total of 994,900 barrels of oil equivalent per day, down 9.9% compared with the previous month. The total includes 801,300 barrels of oil per day and 30.8 million m³/d of natural gas.

According to the ANP, the drop in pre-salt production was caused by the shutdown of FPSO Cidade de Paraty and FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis vessel-platforms, both located in the Lula field.
