Chinese investments in Brazil in the last two months of 2017 totaled US $ 6.7 billion. The data, extracted from the Bulletin on Chinese Investments in Brazil highlight projects in the energy sector. Between announcements and confirmed, China became involved in 250 projects in Brazil in the period from 2003 to 2017 with total values of US $ 123.9 billion. Of these, 93 projects were confirmed, totaling US $ 53.5 billion.

Of the amount confirmed, 85% refer to projects in the areas of energy and mining. Most of the confirmed resources, or 73.6% of the invested resources, originate in Chinese public sector companies.

In spite of the concentration of Chinese investment stock in a few areas, there is an increase in the diversification of investments in Brazil in more areas, including services, as well as a tendency to increase the participation of private Chinese companies.

The data show that 2017 was the second best year of Chinese investments in Brazil, with about US $ 20.9 billion in projects announced and confirmed.

Last year, there were confirmed investments in the energy, transportation logistics, agribusiness, financial services, drug-chemical sectors and generation and transmission of electricity.

These are some of the highlights of the Bi-monthly Bulletin on Chinese Investments in Brazil released yesterday (18) by the Secretary of International Affairs of the Ministry of Planning (Seain / MP), Jorge Arbache. "China is becoming one of the largest foreign investors in Brazil. They are welcome, especially when bringing with them new technologies, productive modernization and greenfield investments, "said the Secretary.
