The president of Petrobras Joaquim Silva e Luna (photo) reinforced this Monday (16/08), at a press conference held at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), in Houston (USA), the role of Petrobras in the context of the energy transition . He recalled that operational efficiency in terms of greenhouse gases is one of the company's top four metrics, which influence the remuneration of all executives and employees. As a result of the effort being made by the company, the emissions for each barrel produced by Petrobras have dropped by practically half in the last 11 years.

“All our actions are aimed at low carbon production both in the exploration and production phase and in the refining phase. Our strategic planning for 2022-2026 will once again contemplate all actions with concern not only with decarbonization, but also with the environment”, highlighted Silva e Luna during the press conference, promoted by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex- Brazil).

Silva e Luna also recalled that production in the pre-salt totaled around 2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in the second quarter of 2021, reaching 70% of Petrobras' total production. Of this production, more than 80% is low-cost, low-emission oil, which confirms the potential of the gigantic reserves on the coast of Brazil in the new context of the oil industry. According to the president of Petrobras, the good results in the pre-salt prove "the correctness of the strategy of investing firmly in its development".
