A subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles has bought an 80% stake in the 115MW Pirapora 2 solar plant in Brazil from Canadian Solar.

Canadian Solar retains a 20% interest in the project and will supply locally-made panels for Pirapora 2.

The project has a 20-year power purchase agreement and is due to be commissioned in the first half of 2018.

It is located in the south-east of Brazil close to the 191MW Pirapora 1 solar project, which is also owned by EDF EN do Brasil and Canadian Solar.

EDF EN said the addition of Pirapora 2 brings its portfolio of under construction projects to 489MW, consisting of 183MW of wind and 306MW of solar.

EDF EN chief executive Antoine Cahuzac said: “These future facilities demonstrate EDF Group’s strong growth ambitions in Brazil.”
