National electricity consumption reached 66,261 average MW in January this year, an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period in 2020, CCEE informed) in a bulletin with preliminary data. In December, consumption totaled 66,191 average MW. Consolidated consumption at SIN has been recovering since July 2020, with the highest increases registered in September (4%) and December (4.8%).

 

The free market, an environment of free negotiation of prices and energy suppliers, consumed 21,160 average MW in January this year, up 9.1% - maintaining the growth trajectory that started in August 2020. In December 2020, consumption of this registered 19,401 average MW.

 

On the other hand, the market served exclusively by the distributors fell by 1.9%, registering 45,101 average MW consumed. “When considering migrations between environments, there is a neutrality for the ACR, with a 0.3% increase, and an increase of 4% for the ACL”, says the CCEE.

 

According to CCEE, the negative highlight was the state of Amazonas, which recorded a 12.9% drop in consumption in January, impacted by “the effects of the lockdown imposed by the local government since January 15 to control the covid pandemic. -19 ”. Other states, such as Rio Grande do Sul (-10%), Rio Grande do Norte (-9%) and Acre (-8%) also showed significant falls.

 

The positive highlight is the 11% growth in the consumption of Espírito Santo, said CCEE, "driven by the growth of the ACL, especially the industrial branch, with emphasis on the non-metallic minerals sector". The states of São Paulo (3%), Ceará (6%), Rio de Janeiro (6%), Pará (7%) and Minas Gerais (5%) also showed significant growth.

 

CCEE recalls that the data is prior and may change during the accounting process.
