Equinor plans to invest US $ 15 billion in Brazil by 2030. The announcement was made at Firjan, on Wednesday (05/9), by the company's Vice President of Development and Production, Verônica Coelho. With this, the company aims to produce between 300 and 500 thousand barrels per day of oil equivalent (boe / d). Today, its production in the country is 100 thousand boe / d. "We see Brazil as a central area for long-term growth," he said.

The executive detailed the company's prospects in the oil and gas market in the country in another meeting of the series "Challenges and Opportunities for the Oil and Gas market" promoted by the federation. "We have a diversified portfolio, with activities at all stages of development, from exploration to production," said Verônica.

Equinor has been operating in Brazil since 2001, beginning production in the Peregrino field in the Campos Basin in 2011. Today, it also has projects in the Espírito Santo and Santos Basins. The most recent and promising discoveries were the Carcará and Pão de Açúcar fields, in the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, respectively. Carcará presents high potential for natural gas and its production should start from 2023.

The company also has investments in the renewable energy market in the country. In its strategy, Equinor sees a balance between energy sources of natural gas, oil and renewables, with monitoring of carbon emission indicator. "We are attentive to this transformation to a low carbon economy, but we understand that the oil and gas market will always be essential for the generation of energy and inputs for other products," he said.

Demands for industry

To achieve production targets, Equinor will have to install another production unit in the Peregrino field at the beginning of 2020. The production capacity of the platform will be 60,000 barrels of oil per day. In addition, for the Roncador field, in the Campos Basin, there will be demand for the increase of the oil recovery factor, as from 2018, adding 500 million barrels recoverable.

For the blocks acquired in the 2017 and 2018 Bidding Rounds, the company plans to drill 5 exploratory wells in these new areas.

Equinor will also be present as a purchasing company in the Rio Oil & Gas 2018 Business Round, which will take place on September 25 and 26, at Riocentro, Rio de Janeiro.

Firjan oil and gas performance

Karine Fragoso, Firjan's manager of Oil, Gas and Naval, stressed during the opening of the event, the need for a closer relationship with the industry. Among Firjan's initiatives for this market are the closer relationship through the series "Challenges and Opportunities for the Oil and Gas Market" and publications, such as the third edition of the Petroleum Industry Yearbook, in July, and the releases of documents for the naval area and for natural gas scheduled for November. "We were able to understand the demands, present our actions and, consequently, strengthen this industry," he said.
