In this edition, 1,354 young people from 63 countries participated in the tournament. China, which will host the next WorldSkills in Shanghai in 2021, came in full force and ranked first in the total points ranking. The tournament's host Russia took second place. South Korea was fourth. The Brazilian delegation has established itself among the most successful teams in the competition. It was the great champion when the event took place in São Paulo, in 2015, for the first time in a Latin American country. In the last edition, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, it reached second place.

“The result, for Brazil, demonstrates the high level of excellence of Brazilian vocational education. In addition to the number of medals, the quality standard we demonstrated in this edition in Kazan in 73% of occupations, Brazil has set a standard of excellence. That is, every four Brazilian competitors, three have WorldSkills reference, which is very good, which makes us among the best in the world, ”says SENAI Director-General Rafael Lucchesi, who is Brazilian delegate to the international organization. which bears the same name as the competition.

According to Lucchesi, Brazil, as a nation, needs to reflect on the results of the competition and change its educational matrix to invest more in vocational education. In addition to hosting the world competition, vocational education is part of the project of the country governed by Vladimir Putin. At this time, Russians reform schools in their 85 autonomous regions to expand and strengthen technical education.

“Young Brazilian competitors are winners, among other reasons, because they have completed vocational education. These are examples of the importance for us of technical education, the inclusion of young people in the labor market, first employment, labor productivity, economic competitiveness and a fairer and more equitable social policy ”, explains the director general of SENAI.

WorldSkills is the largest professional education tournament on the planet. Every two years, young people up to 22 years old compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in a different country. Each occupation has specific tests, in which competitors must demonstrate individual and collective skills and perform tests to international quality standards.
