The waves announced throughout California to encourage photovoltaic solar power, with an incorporation of the technology in all new residences in the region from 2020 and in all new commercial buildings from 2030, represent a milestone for the industry and should serve as an inspiration for Brazilian federal and state laws.

For the president of the Board of Directors of the Brazilian Solar Photovoltaic Energy Association (ABSOLAR), Ronaldo Koloszuk, Brazil is 15 years behind in the development of the solar photovoltaic source. "Therefore, the country needs to establish a state policy for the sector, in line with best international practices, capable of promoting the sustainable use of photovoltaic solar energy in all regions of Brazil," he said.

"For this, the entity proposes a target of reaching at least 30 Gigawatts (GW) of the solar photovoltaic source in the Brazilian electrical matrix until 2030," he adds. According to Koloszuk, it is really about including the source as a strategic tool for the country's development. "Brazil has one of the best solar resources on the planet and should accelerate its initiatives to position itself as a world player in the development of solar photovoltaic source, "he points out.

In addition, less than 30 days ago, the Governor of California ratified a new state law that established that, from 2045, 100% of the electric power consumed in the region should come from clean and non-emitting sources of greenhouse gases, mainly such as solar photovoltaic.

The CEO of ABSOLAR, Rodrigo Sauaia, also points out that Brazil is among the top ten countries in the world in the production of electricity from water sources (2nd place), biomass (4th place) and wind power (8th place), except of solar photovoltaic, for which the country is still in the thirtieth position. "With a structured program to enhance the development of photovoltaic solar energy in Brazil, we will be able to increase positions in this ranking, while adding to the country various social, economic, environmental, energy and strategic benefits, contributing to the construction of a future aligned with sustainable development and with more renewable jobs, "Sauaia concludes.

About ABSOLAR

Founded in 2013, the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR) brings together companies and professionals from the entire production chain of the solar photovoltaic sector with operations in Brazil, both in the areas of distributed generation and centralized generation. ABSOLAR coordinates, represents and defends the development of the sector and the photovoltaic solar energy market in Brazil, promoting and disseminating the use of this clean, renewable and sustainable energy in Brazil and representing the Brazilian photovoltaic sector internationally.
