Brazil’s industrial production faced a decline in June. The national average was 1.4% lower than May. In the 14 states surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (“IBGE”), the most significant reductions were observed in Amazonas (-9,3%), Paraná (-7,5%), Pernambuco (-7,4%), and Ceará (-5,4%). In São Paulo, the country’s most industrialized state, the fall in industrial output stood at 1%.

Only three states reported a positive rate: Rio de Janeiro (5,4%), Espírito Santo (3,5%), and Goiás (0,4%).

Comparing June this year with the same month last year, 12 out of the 14 states covered by the study experienced a decrease in production, most of all Amazonas (-16.1%).

In the year’s accumulated rate (from January to June), ten states have suffered a contraction, with São Paulo being the most extreme case, with a rate of -5%. In the 12-month period (June to June), the industrial output fell in five places.
