The Industry Confidence Index, measured by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), increased 0.7 points from April to May this year. The rise came after four consecutive declines. With the result, the indicator reached 104.2 points, on a scale from zero to 200 points, and returned to the level of March this year.

The result was influenced by the increase in the optimism of businesspeople in the Brazilian industry in relation to the coming months, a question measured by the Expectations Index, which rose 2.1 points and reached 99 points. The Current Situation Index, which measures confidence in the present, decreased 0.5 points and reached 109.5 points.

“The advance of vaccination, although slow, and the recovery of external economies, expanding exports, are elements that tend to contribute to the improvement of expectations for the next semester”, says FGV economist Claudia Perdigão.

The industry's Installed Capacity Utilization Level increased 1.1 percentage points, to 77.8%.
