Today, 06/05, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) opened a public consultation for proposals related to the third cycle of the annual targets for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions for the sale of fuels for the 2021-2030 decade and the revision of the goals established for the year 2020 due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This action is part of the National Biofuels Policy (RenovaBio), and contributions from society can be sent until July 4th. The Ordinance was published in the Official Gazette (DOU) today, 5.

The proposals were discussed and approved by the RenovaBio Committee at its 8th Ordinary Meeting held on May 22, 2020. The RenovaBio Committee is the Policy governance body responsible for monitoring the market and for the annual recommendation to the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE ) of the decarbonization targets of the fuel matrix.

Institucional

The Committee is coordinated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, having as members the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications and the Ministry of Infrastructure. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels and the Energy Research Company also participate as permanent guests.

The Public Consultation complies with Law 13,576 / 2017 (RenovaBio) and is essential for society to express itself on the goals of the Policy. These goals should consider improving the carbon intensity of the Brazilian fuel matrix for a minimum period of ten years, observing the protection of consumer interests in terms of price, quality and supply of fuels. They should also consider the offer of biofuels, the valorization of energy resources, the evolution of fuel consumption and imports in the country, the international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions assumed by Brazil, in addition to the impact on fuel prices .

After analyzing and compiling the contributions received during the Public Consultation, the RenovaBio Committee, under the coordination of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, will forward the recommendations for the deliberation of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE).
