The Monitoring Committee of the Electric Sector (CMSE) evaluated, this Wednesday (1/7), the conditions of supply of electric energy in the Country. it was informed by the National Electric System Operator (ONS) that, in June, there was an increase of approximately 2% in the load of the National Interconnected System (SIN) compared to the previous month. This result was attributed to the gradual return of economic activities in the country, and the forecast is that the trend of gradual recovery of the load will continue in the next month. "There are some indexes, quite consistent, that the country has already started its recovery," stated the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque.

The storage of the equivalent reservoirs of the hydroelectric plants was highlighted, which mostly remain at levels higher than those seen in recent years, and the expressive improvement of the conditions observed in the South region. In this sense, the increase, in June, of about 20 percentage points in the equivalent storage of the Southern subsystem, reaching 37.8% at the end of the month, as a consequence of the significant volumes of rainfall verified.

“Throughout the meeting, we saw some good news about the recovery of reservoir levels as a whole. The southern region also experienced an improvement in cargo. Speaking of which, I see that the country's cargo is returning consistently, ”said the Minister.

In view of this scenario and the prospect of the rains remaining, the CMSE decided to revoke the deliberations of the 229th (Ordinary) meeting on the adoption of exceptional measures to preserve the stocks stored in the hydraulic plants of the southern subsystem. ONS will maintain the plant's operation policy hydroelectric dams in the South Region in their minimum flows, as possible, aiming at increasing the reservoirs.

In addition, the publication of Normative Resolution nº 885/2020 of the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) was published at the meeting, with the criteria and procedures for the management of the COVID-Account to face the impacts caused by the pandemic in the electricity sector. The expectation is that the first transfer to the distributors of the respective amounts, according to regulation, will be carried out in July.

The Committee reiterated the guarantee of supply in 2020, with a commitment to maintaining the provision of services and activities for the various segments of the electricity sector and for serving consumers in the country.

Technical information:

Hydrometeorological conditions: in June, the highest rainfall totals were verified in the hydrographic basins of the South region, with emphasis on the Paranapanema, Uruguay and Iguaçu basins, which presented above average rainfall, reversing the scarcity scenario that was observed until the month of May. In the other basins of interest to the SIN, the typical condition of the dry months remained. Regarding the Gross Affluent Natural Energy (ENA), values below the average were verified in all subsystems, with the exception of the North.

Stored Energy: in June, equivalent storage of 53.2%, 36.4%, 89.0% and 83.3% was verified in the Southeast / Midwest, South, Northeast and North subsystems, respectively, and the forecast for the end of July in these subsystems is 50.4%, 36.1%, 74.1% and 84.2%.

Generation and Transmission Expansion: the expansion verified in June 2020 was 133 MW of installed capacity for centralized generation * of electric energy, 146 km of transmission lines and 1,167 MVA of transformation capacity. Thus, the expansion in 2020 totaled 3,055 MW of installed capacity for centralized generation1, 3,208 km of transmission lines and 6,518 MVA of transformation capacity.

The CMSE, in its legal competence, will continue to permanently monitor the supply conditions and attendance to the electricity market in the country. The final definitions of today's CMSE meeting will be consolidated in minutes duly approved by all participants of the collegiate body and disclosed in accordance with the bylaws.

* In centralized generation, the expansion of the plants of the Regulated Contracting Environment (ACR) and Free (ACL) is considered, and the amounts referring to distributed generation are not computed.
