This was the setting for the Marintec South America 2018 / Man.U.Tec 2018 fairs, which ended on Thursday, 16. On the last day of the event, the intense traffic of professionals present at the SulAmerica Exhibition Center in Rio de Janeiro surprised.

With more than 80 Brazilian and international brands present, the event was marked by the effervescence that begins to appear from companies in the naval and industrial sectors. Even if incipient, the resumption of investment and business in the naval universe is taken for granted as of next year. "We were surprised by a climate of optimism among the businessmen who participated in the event, whether with exhibitors or visitors. The optimism is based on the prospect of resumption of orders by the Brazilian Navy for new vessels. "The Brazilian navy's fleet is very old, and a great demand is evident. The possibility of taking the naval industry out of the doldrums can come with the use of the Merchant Navy Fund (FMM), which from the provisional measure will allow the Navy to hire still this year the construction of 24 new vessels, "says Sérgio Bacci, vice president of the National Union of Shipbuilding and Repair and Offshore Industry (Sinaval). The executive refers to MP that promises to allocate part of the resources of the FMM to the Brazilian Navy to apply in the construction and maintenance of the fleet. The Fund is used to finance activities of the naval sector, but in the specific case of the MP, there would be a resource allocation for the Navy without the need for restitution.

The manager of the Department of Gas, Petroleum and Production Chain of the National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES), Luiz Marcelo Martins Almeida, also has a positive opinion regarding the naval market. Speaking on the second day of the Marintec Congress, Almeida said that 2018 should be the last crisis for the Brazilian naval sector. According to him, the oil companies will resume the investments in boats to face the projects acquired in the auctions of the last years and also because they are more financially strengthened with the high of the quotation of the petroleum. Almeida says that in the future, with the resumption of investments, "the plaintiffs can present guarantees in place of the yards".
