The 23rd World Petroleum Congress continues to expand and build participation from key global energy leaders and companies, with the announcement of several new plenary speakers including Bernard Looney, CEO, bp Amin H. Nasser, President and CEO, Saudi Aramco, and Anders Opedal, President and CEO, Equinor. The 23rd WPC also welcomes two new Elite sponsors to their list of partners, CERAWeek and Petrobras. These are the latest additions to a growing list of participants at the prestigious 23rd WPC taking place in-person in Houston, USA from December 5-9, 2021.

Jeff Shellebarger, Chairman of the 23rd World Petroleum Congress Organizing Committee commented, “Our new plenary speakers and Elite sponsors are all great additions to an already-prestigious line-up, each one bringing valuable insights – whether from a personal or organizational perspective – into the innovative solutions that will shape the future of energy. We are delighted to have them participate to help understand the challenges and opportunities as we navigate the energy transition.”

Mr. Looney, who was appointed CEO of bp in February 2020 previously ran the company’s upstream business where he oversaw improvements in both process and personal safety performances and production and encouraged bp to lead on methane detection methods, as well as driving sustainable emissions reductions.

As President and CEO of Saudi Aramco, Mr. Nasser has been actively engaged in advancing the company’s innovation and technology strategy, including leading the company’s efforts to produce cleaner energy and products through investments in promoting technologies. Both he and Mr. Looney will share their insights and best practices surrounding innovation in the plenary session topic Innovative Energy Solutions.

Mr. Opedal was appointed President and CEO of Equinor in November 2020. Previously he held the position of Executive Vice President Technology, Projects and Drilling. He will join the plenary session focusing on Shaping the Energy Future, where he will discuss his perspective on the future industry outlook.

The 23rd WPC sponsor lineup is also growing with two new Elite Sponsors – CERAWeek and Petrobras. CERAWeek is an annual energy conference organized by the information and insights from IHS Markit. They also join the 23rd WPC as an Industry Partner, with a significant presence on the exhibition floor. Brazilian company, Petrobras is engaged in exploration and production, refining, energy generation and trading. The organization has a large proven reserve base and has acquired expertise in deep- and ultra-deepwater exploration and production as a result of almost 50 years spent developing Brazilian offshore basins, becoming world leaders in this segment. As Elite sponsors, they represent the industry leadership that encompass the Congress theme. Their participation and engagement will support the Congress in maximizing the goals and initiatives established.
