The Research Council of Norway (RCN) and Finep – Funding Authority for Studies and Projects, an agency linked to Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), announced today at the November Conference the preliminary release of a new joint research funding call between Norway and Brazil. The initiative aims to support projects developed in cooperation between Brazilian and Norwegian companies.

Lars-Erik Walle, Senior Adviser at RCN, and Maurício Alves Syrio, Superintendent of the Investment Directorate at Finep, will present the call, which focuses on promoting research and technological innovation in sustainable energy and maritime transport. The initiative includes funding mechanisms in both countries and represents another step in consolidating the scientific and technological partnership between Norway and Brazil. This will be the 5th joint call between the Research Council of Norway and Finep and is part of the cooperation agreement between Brazil’s MCTI and Norway’s Ministries of Education and Research (KD) and Energy (ED).

The 12th edition of the November Conference, dedicated to energy transition and sustainable innovation, is organized by Innovation Norway, the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Brazil, and the University of Oslo, together with a network of research institutions from both countries. The event precedes COP 30, to be held in Belém, and anticipates some of the key discussions that will shape the low-carbon economy agenda.

The program brings together representatives from universities, research centers, companies, and government institutions from both nations. The opening panel will feature Per Sogge (Norwegian Ministry of Energy), Suzana Kahn Ribeiro (COPPE/UFRJ), Thiago Ivanoski (EPE), Julio Leite (Petrobras), Tobias Alvarenga (DNV), Andrea Achoa (Equinor), and Morten Dæhlen (University of Oslo).

Over the course of three days, the conference will host more than 15 thematic sessions on topics such as solar energy, offshore wind, hydrogen, bioenergy, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and artificial intelligence applied to the energy sector. Sessions will be led by Norwegian universities — University of Oslo (UiO), University of Bergen (UiB), NTNU, and University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) — in partnership with Brazilian institutions such as UFRJ, UNICAMP, PUC-Rio, FGV, UFBA, UERJ, UNIRIO, and COPPE.

Executives and researchers from organizations including Scatec, Statkraft, Aker Solutions, RCN, EMBRAPII, Finep, ANP, and Euraxess will also participate, reinforcing the bilateral and multi-sectoral nature of the conference.

Recognized as one of the main platforms for dialogue between academia, industry, and government on research and innovation in energy, the November Conference reaffirms Brazil and Norway’s leadership in energy innovation, anticipates the debates of COP 30, and strengthens the joint commitment to a just, innovative, and collaborative energy transition.
