“With growing production in deep and ultra-deep waters, in the pre-salt and post-salt areas, Petrobras, and new units to start operating in the coming years, Petrobras has been reiterating its commitment to offshore operational safety. To this end, we continually invest in new technologies and processes and reinforce the HSE culture at all levels of the organization, as well as interact with our partners and suppliers in the production chain, to seek the best solutions and best practices”, said Joelson Mendes, executive manager of Safety, Environment and Health at Petrobras, chair of the Offshore Operational Safety Seminar, which started tomorrow (18) and runs until the 19th at Firjan's headquarters, in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

Promoted by the sections Brazil and Macaé of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), with the support of Firjan, this seminar, which is in its second edition, brings together operators and suppliers of goods and services covering topics such as Process Safety, Management Systems, Human Factors, Technology and Mechanical Integrity. “The main objective is to improve the content covered in the first edition, held before the pandemic, considering the current challenges and advances, especially regarding compliance with new regulations”, points out the president of SPE Brasil, Carlos Alberto Pedroso, from Enauta.
The two led the opening plenary session of the event, which also included the participation of Alexandre dos Reis, executive director of Sistema Firjan, Richard Brown, vice president of Technology Delivery in the Well Construction Division at Schlumberger and co-chair of the event, and Itamar Alves, HSSE Compliance Engineer at Modec, Director and HSE co-chair of the SPE Brazil Section.
“Operational safety is a key factor in oil and natural gas exploration and production (E&P) activities, especially in the offshore environment, which accounts for most of the Brazilian production of hydrocarbons. Petrobras mobilizes its partners so that there is an exchange of experiences and greater synergy so that best practices can be replicated and improved”, said Flaubert Machado, general manager of Strategy and Center of Excellence in SMS at Petrobras, co-chair of the event.
“Process safety and asset integrity management are one of Schlumberger's main focuses in the development of solutions and/or technologies that make it possible to increase operational safety and ensure greater reliability in offshore oil and gas exploration and production activities. In this sense, we understand that it is essential to support initiatives that aim to promote the exchange of experiences and greater synergy between operators and suppliers of goods and services, so that we can measure the real challenges and needs of the industry”, added Richard Brow, from Schlumberger.
In the afternoon, the Offshore Operational Safety Seminar will be divided into two technical sessions:
I - Process Safety, chaired by Guilherme Vale (TotalEnergies), with four panels presented by professionals from Schlumberger, Modec, SBM and TotalEnergies.
II - Transition of Management Systems into Mature Assets, chaired by Cristiane Monteiro, who will lead a roundtable on the subject, under the new influence of the ESG theme, with the participation of professionals from Eneva, Petrorio, Trident and the Luciana Pereira office Advocacy.
