Bento Albuquerque, the MME minister during his participation in the 2nd Pre-Salt Petroleum Technical Forum, promoted by Pre-Salt S.A (PPSA), stated that all exploratory activities beyond 200 nautical miles deserve full attention. Offering areas in this extension of the Brazilian continental shelf will require adjustments to our legislation. "It has to be about the collection of government stakes and their distribution to the federated entities for the production of oil and gas beyond this area," he said. “Account should also be taken of the legal certainty and cost-effectiveness of projects in that region in light of the possibility for the maritime authority to regulate the payment of a 1 to 7% levy on oil and gas Brazilian continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles. Thus, it is necessary to consider such issues in the modeling of our auctions in order to enable the economic use of these deposits, ”said Bento Albuquerque.

The Minister concluded his participation in the event stating that the Brazilian trajectory will still be full of challenges in the next decade, “either by the continuity of the supply of blocks of high oil potential and low risk within the pre-salt polygon, or by the exploitation of areas in the extension of the Brazilian continental shelf ”. “To help us meet these challenges,” he said, “we rely heavily on the partnership of industry and entities linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.”
