Petrobras, with the support of BR Distribuidora, started donating 30 thousand liters of fuel to the state of Amapá (15 thousand liters of gasoline and 15 thousand liters of diesel oil) to supply ambulances, medical transport vehicles and public hospital generators and philanthropic patients who care for patients with Covid-19. The fuel was delivered this Friday (10/7) and additional volumes will be donated over the next few months, according to logistical availability and the demand to be indicated by the state government. The initiative is part of a series of contributions by the company to help the country fight the coronavirus.
“Petrobras has focused its efforts, since the beginning of the pandemic, on helping Brazilian society to get through this moment. We believe that the donation of fuel will help the states in locomotion of patients and health teams, and in the generation of energy for field hospitals ”, explains the executive manager of Social Responsibility, Olinta Cardoso.
In total, Petrobras will donate more than 3 million liters of fuel to all states in Brazil. The donation will have strategic importance in facing the pandemic, aiming to ensure efficient logistics in the transport of health professionals, supplies and patients, as well as the maintenance of field hospitals in the states. BR Distribuidora will be responsible for the logistics of delivery throughout the country.
In addition to donations, Petrobras is working on the technological front, mobilizing its scientists, its laboratories and research centers and its partners network. The company created a scientific response structure with projects such as the development of cheaper and simpler mechanical ventilators, carried out in partnership with Coppe / UFRJ. Another initiative was to mobilize part of the capacity of two supercomputers - equivalent to the computational capacity of 3 million laptops (3 petaflops) - to collaborate with research for the development of medicines and vaccines. The company also supports the development of a digital platform for interpreting X-ray images with the objective of assisting doctors from all over the country in the diagnosis of coronavirus, in partnership with Hospital das Clínicas, USP.
Internally, Petrobras also invests more than R $ 30 million in health and prevention actions for employees, such as conducting more than 80 thousand rapid tests for workers in operational areas and gold standard tests for all those who report symptoms.
