Petrobras completed on November 6, the drilling of the first extension well in the Libra oil field, the 3-BRSA-1255 (3-RJS-731), known as NW1.

Located in the northwest portion of Libra block in the pre-salt Santos Basin, the well is approximately 4 km south-east of the discovery well, the 2-ANP-2A-RJS.

The well reached a final depth of 5734 meters and is located 185 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro at a water depth of 1963 meters. This drilling confirmed the existence of a hydrocarbon column of about 290 meters and a reservoir which has good porosity and permeability. Samples collected from the well confirmed that this is the same oil found in the discovery well 2-ANP-2A-RJS, with 27 degrees API. It is planned also a formation test in the carrier oil zone to verify reservoir productivity.

The Libra Consortium wich is composed of Petrobras (operator, 40%), Shell (20%), Total (20%), CNPC (10%), CNOOC Limited (10%) and the state-owned Pre-Sal Petróleo S.A. (PPSA) - will continue its activities under the Exploratory Program approved by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

At this time, the second well drilling - 3-RJS-735 - known as L2C1, has reached the base of the salt layer and is expected to begin drilling phase within the reservoir in the coming days.
