Biofuel production in Brazil is expected to grow over 200% - from 1.3 million to 4.1 million barrels compared to oil - by 2035, estimates the IEA (International Energy Agency). In the same period, the use of ethanol in transport will rise from the current 3% to 8%, yet according to the organization. The numbers were presented on Monday (17), the head of the industry and the IEA oil market, Antoine Halff department. Guest of the International Seminar on Biofuels organized by IBP (Brazilian Institute of Oil and Gas) and WPC (World Petroleum Council), Halff opened the event schedule that occurs until tomorrow in São Paulo, and brings together Brazilian and foreign experts the sector.

According to Halff, forecasts for Brazil in the next 20 years are optimistic: in addition to nearly quadruple the generation of renewable energy, the country will account for 40% of world exports of biofuels. The production of natural gas will increase fivefold and the country will become the 6th largest oil producer in the world, with a daily production of over 6 million barrels per day.

"The energy map is changing the world. Exists a redistribution of supply and demand for oil and biofuel and Brazil we see today as the pivot of this transformation," he said. No wonder, the country has gained prominence with four chapters on the latest World Energy Outlook report published by the Agency which serves as a benchmark for the market.

Who also praised Brazil's potential was the vice president of the WPC, Joszef Tóth, which ranked the country as the "Mecca of biofuels." "There are many places in the world producing this type of fuel, but none in such quantity and quality as Brazil," he said.

The President of the WPC, Renato Bertani said that you need to pay increasing attention to renewable energy. According to him, when compared to barrels of oil the world consumes about 250 million barrels in energy. Of these, 85 million are actually oil. The rest comes from coal, gas, hydroelectric, among other sources. "Our challenge is increasingly encouraging the use of renewable sources, because biofuels are ideal to meet the energy demand in the world," he said.

João Carlos de Luca, president of IBP, said that the country has ideal conditions to keep the biofuels market for high such as climate and sufficient for planting territories. However, establishing a regulatory framework and increase investments in technology are critical.
