On Tuesday (25), the Mines and Energy Commission approved Bill 6146/19, by ex-deputy Schiavinato (PR), which exempts properties that generate electricity from the Rural Territorial Property Tax (ITR). biomass, such as crop remains and animal manure.

The proposal received a favorable opinion from the rapporteur, deputy Eduardo Bismarck (PDT-CE). He agreed with Schiavinato's argument that the use of biomass in properties has been hampered by the high costs of implementing energy production systems.

Bismarck also highlighted the benefits of producing energy from biomass. "Its use for power generation generates a low amount of pollutants, favors the reuse of resources and has low operating costs," he said.

The approved project amends Law 9.393 / 96, which regulates the ITR, a federal tax that is paid annually by the owners of rural properties.
