The Henrique Lage Refinery (Revap), located in São José dos Campos, achieved historic production records in 2024 for asphalt (CAP) and Jet Fuel (QAV). Between January and December last year, the facility produced 387,500 tons of asphalt, marking a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2023, the best result in a decade. It also reached 2.164 million cubic meters of QAV, the highest volume since the refinery began operations in 1980.

To put the amount of QAV produced into perspective, the volume produced in 2024 would be enough to fuel 6,762 Airbus A380 aircraft, the largest passenger aircraft in operation. The refinery is responsible for about 75% of the jet fuel consumed at São Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport. “Revap plays a strategic role in air fuel supply and has a very strong competitive advantage because it is connected via pipeline to the largest airport in Latin America,” said Alexandre Coelho, the refinery's general manager.

Regarding asphalt, Revap produces three different grades: CAP 50/70, CAP PRO W, and CAP PRO AP. The CAP PRO line, which was recently launched, produces 65% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than conventional CAP, aligning with Petrobras' sustainability goals and its commitment to reducing operational emissions by 30% in the next five years.

Lower Emissions

In 2024, Petrobras' refining park achieved the lowest intensity of greenhouse gas emissions in its historical series, which began in 2019. The company recorded 36.1 kgCO2 per equivalent load, preventing the burning of 475,000 m³/day of natural gas and the emission of 365,000 tons of CO2. This volume represents the removal of more than 6,000 diesel-powered city buses or over 60,000 gasoline-powered cars from circulation.

Further Investments in Refining

Petrobras' current Business Plan foresees investments of US$ 19.6 billion in the Refining, Transportation, Marketing, Petrochemicals, and Fertilizers (RTC) segment by 2029, an increase of 17% over the previous plan.

“We are enhancing the refining park, investing in modernization, and increasing production capacity. Petrobras is focused on efficiency, safety, and the profitable operation of its assets. The investments we make in refining are crucial for the overall performance of our refineries,” said William França, Petrobras' Director of Industrial Processes and Products.
