Photovoltaic solar energy generation continues to rise in the country. After ending 2021 with an increase of 29.3%, the production of this type of electricity increased by 60.9% in January of this year, according to the periodic survey of the Fortnightly InfoMercado Bulletin of the Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber – CCEE.

In all, 1,134 average megawatts were generated. The state with the largest share of this amount was Bahia, with 233 average MW, followed by Minas Gerais (163 average MW), Piauí (90 average MW), São Paulo (74 average MW) and Ceará (49 average MW).

Today Brazil has 176 photovoltaic solar plants, most located in the Northeast region, where the solar incidence is good practically all year round. Installed capacity has grown by 83% in the last 2 years and currently stands at 4,836 megawatts, a volume higher than what is produced by a plant the size of Jirau, in the state of Rondônia, the fifth largest plant in terms of installed capacity in Brazil.
