President Michel Temer flies to Asia this Friday (Oct. 14) to attend the 8th Summit of the BRICS bloc (made up by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) in Goa, India, where he will attend engagements with the Indian government. Temer is also visiting Japan.

The agenda for the trip includes meetings with the region's leaders and business people.

According to Alexandre Parola, spokesman for the Presidency, “the BRICS maintain cooperation in a number of topics, chiefly in the financial sector. In Goa, we are going to sign cooperation agreements on customs, agricultural research, and environmental cooperation.”

After the BRICS Summit, the president will “strengthen ties” with India at a meeting with Indian government officials and business leaders. According to the spokesman, the trip will be an opportunity to introduce what the government calls a “new Brazil” of “investment opportunities, stability, and fiscal responsibility.”

Temer will be welcomed to Japan by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in what will be the first visit of a Brazilian head of state to the country in 11 years. He will then have a meeting with business leaders in which he will introduce “Brazil's new economic reality and the opportunities opened up by the Investment Partnership Plan,” Parola said.
