Tenaris supplies line pipe for Petrobras’s deepwater projects in Brazil

Tenaris has provided over 300 km of 24” line pipe for Petrobras’s Rota II project and has begun to deliver 373 kilometers of 22”, 24” and 20” line pipe for Petrobras’s Rota III project.

Tenaris has provided over 300 km of 24” line pipe for Petrobras’s Rota II project and has begun to deliver 373 kilometers of 22”, 24” and 20” line pipe for Petrobras’s Rota III project. These challenging offshore operations will increase gas production and ensure natural gas supply in the region.

 

As part of the Rota II project, Tenaris products have been installed in the offshore gas pipeline connecting Cernambi, a pre-salt field located almost 400 kilometers of the Brazilian coast, to the gas treatment plant in Cabiúnas Terminal. Its gas flow capacity stands at 13 million m3/day.

 

“Rota II will transport gas extracted from an offshore field to the Brazilian coast. It is very challenging due to the presence of H2S and high pressures. For that reason, the line pipe production process was carefully controlled,” said Marcelo Salani, Tenaris Linepipe Technical Sales Manager for Brazil.

 

Tenaris provided high end line pipe in DNV 450 SFDU grade, with internal and external coatings, compatible with demanding sour service requirements and restricted dimensional tolerances. A Tenaris specialist followed the beginning of pipelaying operation side-by-side with the customer.

 

The Rota III project will connect the areas from Franco and Lula pre-salt developments to Comperj and it will transport associated gas to the petrochemical complex of Itaboraí for onshore processing, in Rio de Janeiro. Tenaris will supply 22” products for the onshore pipeline connecting the cities of Maricá and Itaboraí (Comperj), along with 24” and 20” products for the offshore pipeline that will lie in water depths of 1,500-2,300 meters. The gas flow capacity will be of 21 million m3/day.

 

The products for Rota III are being manufactured with steel grades to be able to withstand the difficulties posed by the offshore environment, including high pressures, high collapse, sour environments and high corrosion rates.
