Topaz Energy and Marine has acquired two large anchor handling towage and supply vessels for more than $100 million.
Kleven Maritime in Norway built the Caspian Challenger and Caspian Endeavour in 2008-2009. Both feature DP-2 dynamic positioning and automated safe anchor handing capabilities.
According to Topaz, these are the most powerful vessels operating presently in the Caspian Sea, providing 17,200-hp and 190-metric ton (209-ton) bollard pull. They are also suited to deepwater operations.
Both have been operating as part of Topaz’s Caspian fleet on a bareboat agreement, and are currently on a long-term contract with BP, supporting operations on the ACG and Shah Deniz fields in the Azeri sector. Typically they are assisting rig moves, providing anchor repositioning and logistical support.
Topaz’s fleet in Azeri waters will increase to 26 this spring following delivery of the 4,000-dwt platform supply vessel Caspian Voyager.
