On Saturday, May 3, Vast Infraestrutura completed its 1,000th oil transshipment operation at T-Oil, the company’s terminal located at Porto do Açu, in northern Rio de Janeiro state. The milestone marks the handling of 1 billion barrels of oil by the company since operations began in 2016.

In 2024, Vast was responsible for approximately 40% of all crude oil exported from Brazil, handling around 25.2 million tons. In total, Brazil exported approximately 64 million tons during the same period. “Brazil currently exports around 1.7 million barrels of oil per day. With new exploration campaigns and the continued growth in domestic production, that number could reach 3.5 million by the early 2030s. Vast’s terminal is the country’s leader in oil exports — Brazil’s top trade commodity. This underscores the strategic importance of both T-Oil and Porto do Açu for the national economy,” said Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, CEO of Vast.

T-Oil is the only private oil transshipment terminal in Brazil capable of handling VLCC-class (Very Large Crude Carrier) vessels and is considered the most modern facility of its kind in the country. So far, around US$ 500 million have been invested in infrastructure. The terminal is licensed to handle up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day. To meet the projected growth in export demand, Vast is evaluating initiatives to expand the terminal’s capacity.

Today, Vast serves 11 oil and gas operators active in Brazil: BW Energy, CNOOC, Equinor, Galp, Petrobras, PetroChina, Petronas, PRIO, Repsol, Shell, and TotalEnergies.
