Telemetry, a technology that came from the Formula 1 speedways, won the Brazilian Market in the last years. Companies in the segment of oil and gas transportation started to daily use telemetry at their fleets and this way looking for efficiency and safety on transport, reducing costs with accidents and maintenance, consequently decreasing the carbon emissions in the environment. Between the segment clients there are Linde Gases, Raizen, Schlumberger, BR Distribuidora, among others.

Technology allows the measurement and communication of the reports that are of interest of the fleet’s manager or shipper; this way it’s possible to exactly know, in real time, how the car, truck or bus are being conducted. It allows to recognize and rectify the driver’s behaviors, identify situations where the vehicle, cargo and even the conductor are exposed to risks and by that optimizing all of the chain’s performance. Furthermore, telemetry provides more objective trainings to the companies, for there are reliable data directly related specific operation, route, relief, etc.

For the next months, the technology advancement in vehicular telemetry comes to complement the “IoT” (internet of things) of transport, innovations are coming to speed up this Market. According to Bruno Santos, vehicular telemetry specialist and MiX Telematics director, a company that globally operate in this area, the main trends for this year are:

Voice combined telemetry: relevant tool to alert the driver about the road dangers (holes, accidents, deviations, rain, etc.) as well as committed infractions during conduction. Also raise the driver’s and its cargo security level for permitting direct communication with the vehicle’s conductor, which can be notified about specific routes;

Image combined telemetry: by using internal and external cameras in vehicles, it is possible to know what happens during the conduction of the vehicle. This kind of functionality enables the driver to see which events and behaviors contributed for the accident, for the cameras shows us visual evidences that reconstitute the scenes that proceeds (or not) the accident or transit infringement;

Fatigue Sensor: the one which also through images, identifies in the driver fatigue, distraction or an inappropriate behavior while driving;

Mobile App: through the app, the driver can self-manage its own performance and safety, besides the operational costs and raising its work efficiency. The mobile app also allows that drivers, by anticipation, understand where they are missing something to prevent traffic tickets or operational losses;

Connectivity: with a on board hardware, it is possible to get internal connectivity in the vehicle like sensors without connected wires by Bluetooth technology. This way, more agility and security are incorporated to the drivers and fleet manager’s day-to-day.
