Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) plans to build a factory with an annual capacity of 200 nacelles, or 400 MW in total, in Ceara state, reported daily Diario do Nordeste.
Located in the city of Aquiraz, it is expected the BRL-100-million (USD 27.8m/EUR 24.7m) project will be ready this December.
Gustavo Santos, a vice president for Vestas, was quoted by the newspaper as saying the plant's capacity could be doubles in the future to 400 nacelles per year.
The new production site is the second investment of the company in the state. The Aquiraz project will primarily meet the domestic market demand but could also start exporting its products to other countries in South America.
Recently, Reuters said Vestas expects to return this year to the Brazilian Development Bank's (BNDES) list of equipment eligible for financing.
