Petrobras achieved a record in asphalt sales in 2023, reaching 2.5 million tons, the highest quantity since 2014.

The performance was attributed to the efficiency and operational availability of the refining facilities in meeting the demand arising from road construction projects of the National Department of Infrastructure and Transportation (DNIT) and related state and municipal agencies, as well as highway concessions. Asphalt is sold to distributors, who then market the product to end customers.

According to Petrobras' Director of Industrial Processes and Products, William França, "the record asphalt sales demonstrate Petrobras' commitment to investing in refining to meet commercial commitments with reliability, operational availability, and profitability, always ensuring the safety of operations.

The director also emphasizes the return to society. "The highest sales volume," says William França, "means higher tax revenue and more structuring pavement, both crucial benefits for the economies of the states within Petrobras' coverage area."

For Petrobras' acting Director of Commercialization, Logistics, and Markets, Daniel Sales Correa, the increased asphalt sales volume was only possible due to the commercial conditions created by the company. "Petrobras has a well-structured logistics and a strict adherence to contracts," he says, "ensuring the product supply even during periods of high demand."

Sales Correa notes that Petrobras' reliability in asphalt sales is important not only for the company's profitability but for the entire production chain. "By being able to distribute the product within the conditions stipulated in the contract," he says, "we maintain road construction projects and, consequently, the tax, logistical, and employment gains that come with them."

To achieve this milestone, several refineries reached their individual records:

  • LUBNOR – 223 thousand tons – the highest sales since 2014
  • REGAP – 676 thousand tons – the highest sales since 2014
  • REPAR – 451 thousand tons – the highest sales since 2010
  • REPLAN – 423 thousand tons – the highest sales since 2014
  • REVAP – 313 thousand tons – the highest sales since 2014
  • REFAP – 204 thousand tons – the highest historical sales since REFAP was reincorporated into the Petrobras system in 2011.
