The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) approved the results of the 76th Biodiesel Auction (L76), which resulted in the sale of 1,105.3 million liters of biofuel. With the closing of volumes sold at L76, which will be delivered in the months of November and December, the biodiesel sector will end the year with the production of 6.4 billion liters, an increase of 8.5% compared to last year. , according to projections by the Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove).

"Even in the face of a scenario of uncertainties such as the one we live in 2020, in the midst of a pandemic that has impacted the lives of people and companies worldwide, Brazil will end the year as the 3rd largest producer of biodiesel", highlights Daniel Furlan Amaral, chief economist at Abiove. "In view of these results, the sector is strengthened and prepared to increase the share of biodiesel in the national energy matrix and is on track to deliver B13 as of March 2021".

The entity's performance throughout the year was in search of maintaining an open dialogue with the government and the distribution sector in order to adjust the functioning of the auctions in the midst of the pandemic scenario that brought great uncertainties for all sectors of the economy. "We work to correct routes that hindered the safety of marketing, as in the case of changes to the rules at L72, always defending dialogue and transparency. The result is that we closed L76, the last of the auction of the year, without surprises, with predictability demand and delivery guarantee ", reinforces Amaral.

With the jump of 8.5% in the national production of biodiesel, it was possible to reduce the need to import diesel A to the same extent, strengthening the Brazilian energy security by expanding the representativeness of this renewable biofuel in the national energy matrix.

The growth of biodiesel also stimulated the processing of soybeans and the production of animal feed for the animal protein sector, and the oilseed industry should also end the year with a milling record, totaling 44.6 million tons.

"The added value necessary for the production of biodiesel is favorable and allows the country to generate jobs, income and growth for the economy, in addition to improving environmental indicators related to global warming and air quality, and it is a bit of this transformation that we are seeing in 2020 ", concludes Amaral.
