The Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque (photo), participated this Wednesday (11/17), during the ADIPEC 2021 (Exhibition and Conference on Oil and Gas), in the ministerial session "Fuels of the Future: working together to create an ecosystem of change." The event in Abu Dhabi was moderated by CNN Emerging Markets Editor John Defterios.


Bento Albuquerque commented on the Brazilian energy transition process, based on the diversity of sources and which allowed for great renewal of the country's energy and electrical matrix. He reiterated the vision that the global energy transition must respect the needs and conditions of each country, region and location .


The Minister recalled that Brazil has been on the path of energy transition and decarbonization since the 1970s, and that the country has been advancing rapidly in the full use of the potential of bioenergy, wind, solar and, more recently, hydrogen, among other sources energy. The biofuels sector and, in particular, the Fuel of the Future program, which aims to promote second-generation biofuels, fuel cells, biogas and aviation biokeresene, among others, were commented on by the Minister.


As for the oil and gas sector, Bento Albuquerque presented the modernizing reforms advanced in the last three years, aimed at increasing the number of agents in the market and competition in all links of the chain. He also mentioned the extensive work to reduce uncertainties and improve competitiveness for the second round of the auction for the transfer of rights for the Sépia and Atapu blocks, to be held in December.


Brazil will double its natural gas production by the end of the decade, with more than US$ 20 billion in investments in terminals, processing and transport units, while creating conditions to stimulate demand and use of the natural resources of the country. pre-salt and other onshore basins. The resources generated by the sector will be important for regional development, financing and support for the energy transition itself.
