The 6th edition of the Rio 2021 Oil Yearbook also foresees the opening of more than 63 thousand jobs in the market in the period. Federation document will be released this Tuesday (8/24)

Rio de Janeiro has been expanding its predominance compared to other states in terms of oil production. If between 2014 and 2017 its participation in national production was less than 70%, in 2020 it was 79% and in the first six months of 2021, it has already reached 80%. As a result, the largest oil and gas producing center has mapped R$ 50 billion in investments between 2021 and 2023 in Exploration & Production (E&P) and Supply. The data are from the “Anuário do Petróleo no Rio 2021”, published by the Federation of Industries of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan).

Now in its 6th edition, the study by the federation of Rio de Janeiro estimates more than 63,000 jobs in the oil and gas market in the period. The document will be released this Tuesday (24/8) at an online event with the participation of the organization's president, Eduardo Eugenio Gouvêa Vieira; the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque; the secretary of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels at the MME, José Mauro Ferreira Coelho; the director of the ANP, Symone Araújo; the director of EPE, Heloisa Borges; the executive director of Petrobras, Roberto Furian Ardenghy; and the president of the IBP, Eberaldo de Almeida Neto. The transmission will be through the Federation's Youtube at the link: https://youtu.be/Ylb85lMY7as

The document also highlights that Brazilian oil exports can reach an average volume of 3.4 million bpd, placing Brazil among the five largest oil exporters by 2030. And, as the leader of the national market, Rio de Janeiro could lead the integration of oil with other energies, promoting the sustainability of development through energy integration.

“In the world, examples show that it is from oil that new energies will be developed: recovery of mature fields with energy produced from offshore wind farms”, highlights Firjan's president, Eduardo Eugenio.

In one of the articles in the Yearbook, the Energy Research Company (EPE) highlights the integration of energy sources in the Brazilian matrix and the role of oil. Petrobras, which also contributed to the analysis, is evaluating the construction of a lubricant production plant at the GasLub hub, from the existing interconnections of some units with the Duque de Caxias Refinery (Reduc). It is also studying the construction, in partnership with other investors, of a thermoelectric plant to generate energy using gas from UPGN, formerly Comperj.

Firjan's Oil, Gas and Naval Manager, Karine Fragoso argues that natural gas should be used not only as a fuel to generate electricity, “but also as an input for the transformation industry, such as the fertilization, petrochemical and glass sectors , between others".

Socioeconomic reflexes for Rio de Janeiro

As forecast by the ANP, this year there will be two oil auctions: the 17th round of concessions and the 2nd offer of surpluses from the transfer of rights, both in areas in the Campos and Santos basins, facing the state of Rio de Janeiro. For 2022, another two auctions are estimated.

In the first half of 2021, as the main national producer, Rio de Janeiro showed growth in the collection of royalties with average monthly values 37%, higher than last year's values. The total amount already reaches 72.57% of the collected in 2019. The same is true for the special participations in relation to the amounts paid in 2021. The state of Rio received more than 32% of the total value of the special participations in the country, in addition to quarterly average increase 32% from last year to the first quarter of 2021.

“These resources are fundamental for the resumption of the Rio de Janeiro economy, as well as help in the recovery of the Rio de Janeiro naval industry, since the new auctions allow the entry of new operators operating in the state”, highlights the moderator of the online event. Karine recalls that the launch of the Yearbook will also have an edition on Wednesday (8/25) with the participation of federal deputies Paulo Ganime and Christino Áureo; state deputy Luiz Paulo; the State Secretary for Economic Development of the Rio Economic Development, Energy and International Relations Secretariat, Vinícius Farah, and the President of the Board of P&G of Firjan and Brazil Country Director of SBM Offshore, Bruno Freitas.
