Its 3 MW turbines will be used in the Santa Vitória do Palmar wind power complex owned by the company Atlantic Energias Renováveis.

AWP will also operate and maintain the turbines for 15 years.

ACCIONA Windpower (AWP), a subsidiary of the ACCIONA group that designs, manufactures and commercializes wind turbines, has signed a turbine supply contract in Brazil with the renewable energy generation holding company Atlantic Energias Renováveis for a total of 153 MW.

The contract includes the supply and assembly of fifty-one AW 125/3000 turbines, of 3 MW capacity each and 125 meters rotor diameter, for the Santa Vitória do Palmar wind power complex in the state of Río Grande do Sul. The turbines - the biggest designed by ACCIONA Windpower - will be mounted on 120-meter-high concrete towers.

The company has also signed a contract for the operation and maintenance of the turbines for a period of 15 years.

ACCIONA Windpower already has six supply contracts in Brazil for a total of 666 MW, making the country the company's biggest market in terms of 3 MW wind turbines.

A very competitive wind turbine

"The contracts with Atlantic strengthen our position in Brazil and confirm the special adaptability of our large AW3000 turbines to the characteristics of the wind power potential of the country", says ACCIONA Windpower Brasil Director Christiano Forman. "We have a very competitive machine, with options that make it ideal for a large number of sites".

ACCIONA Windpower complies with the requirements for local operation in Brazil defined in the FINAME regulation. It has an operational hub manufacture plant, which will be complemented with a nacelle factory in the fourth trimester of 2014. Both are located in the state of Bahia, and the supply of main turbine components such as blades is covered from local suppliers, as well as other smaller components.
