The Casa da Indústria, in Goiânia, Goiás, hosted the Workshop Opportunities for Biomethane in Industry and the Transportation Sector, bringing together political leaders and representatives of the productive sector to discuss the pathways of Brazil’s energy transition. The event was organized by Fieg in partnership with the Goiás State Government’s General Secretariat (SGG), through the Subsecretariat for Energy, Telecommunications, and Smart Cities.

The Executive President of Sifaeg and President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Goiás (Fieg), André Rocha, welcomed to the debate the Subsecretary for Energy, Renato Lyra; federal deputies Arnaldo Jardim and Marussa Boldrin; the Director of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Pietro Mendes; Scania’s Institutional Director, Gustavo Bonini; Ultragaz Director, Aurélio Antônio; and Copersucar Director, Henrique Araújo.

The discussion advanced on financing instruments and regulatory mechanisms considered strategic for consolidating the sector. Topics addressed included the Energy Transition Acceleration Program (PATEN), BNDES credit lines, resources from the Climate Fund, as well as guidelines from the National Agency for Petroleum (ANP), targets set by the National Council for Energy Policy (CNPE), and decarbonization credits established under RenovaBio.

Legal Certainty

During the meeting, Congressman Arnaldo Jardim emphasized the need to ensure legal certainty and expand access to credit to drive new projects. According to him, Brazil already has a well-established trajectory in biofuels and must guarantee stability and adequate financial instruments to expand biomethane and biogas production.

Along the same lines, Marussa Boldrin advocated for greater regulatory clarity and stronger integration between agribusiness and renewable energy generation. For the congresswoman, predictability of rules is crucial to stimulate investments and build confidence among producers and entrepreneurs interested in the biomethane value chain.

The debate also highlighted the decentralization of energy generation, the encouragement of technological innovation, and the expansion of domestic production as key factors to strengthen the competitiveness of Brazilian industry, while contributing to emissions reduction and advancing the sustainability agenda.
