Brazil stands out on the world stage of renewable energy

By 2030 Brazilian growth will be higher than the countries like Spain, Germany and Italy

Brazil will remain strong in the renewable energy sector by 2030, concluded the panel on the Brazilian Energy Matrix, held on Monday (15/9), during the first day of the Rio Oil & Gas 2014. Data from the Energy Research Company (EPE) show that, in ten years, the share of wind energy in the Brazilian energy matrix will jump from 2% to 10%, offsetting the low growth of hydropower in the same period. "These numbers prove the effectiveness of investments that have been made by Brazil in wind energy," said the director of ANP Helder Queiroz. Also driven by the increased use of biomass, the growth of renewable energy in the country by 2030 will be higher than in countries like Spain, Germany and Italy, according to Mark Finley, General Manager of Global Energy Markets BP.

 

According to Antonio Eduardo de Castro, executive manager of corporate strategy of Petrobras, the balance between fossil and renewable energy is also one of Brazil highlights the global stage. "We have 55% of supply of fossil fuels and 43% from renewable sources. Worldwide, 80% of primary energy supply comes from fossil fuels, which should drop to around 70% in 2030. "

According to Maurício Tolmasquim, president of EPE, the demand for energy in Brazil will grow 4% per year until 2023, slightly higher than the 3.8% projection of GDP growth.

Brazil should maintain leadership in the oil sector, according to the panelists. "Today I extrapolate the mark of 500 thousand barrels / day, the pre-salt is a reality," said Helder Queiroz. According to Antonio de Castro, Petrobras and its partners will be responsible for one million barrels per day in 2017 "There is no technological barriers that impede production. Brazil is already an exporter and at least will double its oil production in the coming decades, "he said, noting that the country is expected to produce an average of 5.2 barrels / day between 2020 and 2030.
