Copel will invest R $ 38 million in the expansion of the energy substation located in Guaíra (PR). It is planned to install a new transformer and replace one of the old equipment with another one with higher power. The intervention will double the unit's transformation capacity, directly benefiting the western, northwest and northern regions of the state.

The investment was authorized by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) through Resolution No. 9,219, published this Thursday (24) in the Federal Official Gazette and the work should be completed by September 2024. “Our teams have already started the planning of this intervention that will be divided into several stages. It is a very important reinforcement for Paraná's energy security in the coming decades and will also bring gains for Copel. When we put the renewed substation into operation, we will have an increase of almost R $ 6 million in the Annual Permitted Transmission Revenue ”, says the general director of Copel Geração e Transmissão, Moacir Carlos Bertol.

The new Guaíra substation with transformation power increased from 300 to 600 megavolt-amps will integrate a new transmission trunk planned by the Energy Research Company (EPE) with double circuit lines operating at extra high voltage (525 thousand volts) to connect the Foz do Iguaçu, Guaíra, Sarandi and Londrina substations.

The greatest benefit of this new trunk will be to guarantee the service of this entire region even in times of severe drought in the South, with energy from the Itaipu Plant and, also, from the Southeast - with the connection point at the Assis substation (SP). In addition, this reinforcement in Guaíra will relieve Itaipu's 765 thousand volts network, increasing the system's reliability in case of accidental equipment disconnections in the network that supplies this portion of the state.
