The biggest event in Latin America on wind energy starts on October 18th and will bring together the biggest authorities and main players in the market to discuss the present and future of the sector.
T&B Petroleum/Press OfficeCelebrating its 13th edition, Brazil Windpower, the main congress and trade fair in Latin America on wind energy, will debate, from October 18th, the main trends and challenges for the development of the wind energy sector in the country. The theme of this year's event will be "Wind sector in expansion and allied to new technologies: the path to a net zero future".
The contents will be divided into four major topics: 'Just Energy Transition', 'Expansion and Challenges', 'Expansion and Future' and 'Offshore Wind Power'. All the details of the congress schedule are already available on the official website. The event is organized by the CanalEnergia Group by Informa Markets, the Brazilian Association of Wind Energy and New Technologies (ABEEólica) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).
In the opinion of Hermano Pinto Junior, director of the energy and infrastructure nucleus at Informa Markets, this year's congress and fair will bring a broad view of the energy ecosystem. "As a country of fertile lands, rich subsoil, abundant hydrography and continuous and directed winds, Brazil has always had a clean and renewable energy matrix. This makes wind energy a complementary alternative to guarantee the economy's supply as a reliable and perennial source of electric energy and for the production of green hydrogen, besides allowing the development of new value chains for the industry and job creation", he says.
The president of ABEEólica, Elbia Gannoum, highlights that Brazil has been growing in the ranking of installed capacity of onshore wind energy, already occupying the sixth position. “We are on track to deploy our first offshore wind farms. When we talk about offshore, we see a huge potential of over 700 GW. We face a serious climate emergency that needs our full attention and the wind sector is ready to contribute to the goal. net zero by 2050. It is the good Brazilian winds that can contribute to having a more sustainable planet for the next generations", he guarantees.
GWEC CEO Ben Backwell says that the holding of Brazil Windpower reflects the importance of the wind sector to Brazil and its leading position in Latin America and as one of the largest global markets. "With each edition, the event has established itself in the world's most relevant calendar in the sector, at the same time that Brazil has emerged as a promising market for offshore wind energy, considered one of the most promising new renewable energy technologies on the way to Net Zero", he says.
Future Net Zero, offshore wind and hydrogen generation
The opening of BWP 2022 will be attended by Morten Dyrholm, chairman of the GWEC board, Elbia Gannoum, chairman of ABEEólica and Fernando Elias, chairman of the board of ABEEólica, who will address the protagonism of the wind sector and the responsibility of this industry in tackling climate change.
The first panel, which has the function of presenting the main theme of the event, will address the need for an accelerated expansion of the wind sector and the future for a 'net zero' path, an expression that refers to the neutralization of carbon production. For this opening debate, the presence of Ramón Fiestas, president of GWEC Latin America, Elbia Gannoum, president of ABEEólica, Alfonso Blanco, executive director of Olade, Roberto Kishinami, senior coordinator of Instituto Clima e Sociedade and Francesco La Camera, director general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which will be moderated by Luiz Barroso, President of PSR.
On the first day there will still be debates on the commitment of wind energy to the future of the planet, in which the participants will take stock of COP 26 and outline expectations for COP 27, which will take place next November in Egypt, with important participation from the GWEC and the alliance of wind companies.
Another relevant impact topic that will be discussed on the first day of the congress is the concern with a fair energy transition and the need to accelerate the implementation of wind energy in a sustainable way.
The second day of Brazil WindPower will discuss the financing of the wind industry, from an ESG perspective and project eligibility criteria, with the participation of representatives of the main banks in the country. Other highlights of the day will be the challenges of competitiveness in the production and input chain and the role of the free energy market and its integration with renewable sources as an indispensable instrument for a Net Zero future.
On the third and final day of the congress, offshore wind energy projects stand out in the agenda. The introductory panel to the theme will address the sector's scenarios, the need for international cooperation and the prospects for the development of offshore projects in Brazil. There will also be a discussion table on regulatory paths focused on environmental legislation for offshore wind farms.
At the end of the congress, experts from the sector will debate the role of wind energy in the green generation of hydrogen, as a clean alternative to guarantee the energy security of countries.
