The second day of Macaé Energy, held this Wednesday (18) at the Jornalista Roberto Marinho Convention Center, solidified the event as an intelligence hub for the energy sector. With a focus on the regional dynamics of natural gas and the revitalization of assets, the discussions highlighted the importance of Macaé as a technological and operational hub for the Brazilian offshore industry.

The municipal Secretary of Economic Development of Macaé, Rodrigo Viana, opened the program by emphasizing that this edition represents an important milestone for the Brazilian offshore industry, as it brings together in the same environment the main operators and companies that jointly develop projects ensuring Brazil’s repositioning among oil-producing nations with high technological potential.

“Today Macaé is a symbol of the synergy between the market and the city, which prospers through business environments guided by legal certainty, innovation, entrepreneurial strength, and also the courage of public administration in restoring the city’s leadership at a crucial moment for the national oil industry,” he stated.

The importance of the sector for the economy of Rio de Janeiro was the highlight of the speech by Gualter Scheles, Coordinator of the Municipal Commission of Macaé at Firjan. He recalled that the oil and gas industry accounts for about 35% of the state’s GDP, meaning it generates revenue, drives development, and creates jobs.

“We are the state’s economic backbone, and Macaé, now established as the Energy City, is the main protagonist in this context,” he said.

The Coordinator of Rede Petro – BC, Marcello Santos, emphasized the importance of the event for companies in the region. “Macaé Energy emerged as a demand from local business leaders during a meeting of our steering committee in January 2024. We analyzed the scenario and saw that the gas, oil, and energy market was already regaining momentum. Today, Rede Petro – BC is very proud to see the project becoming a reality and to feel a sense of mission accomplished,” he stressed.

Lectures and panels highlight sector challenges

The opening lecture, delivered by Alisson Cardoso (photo), Manager of the Cabiúnas Processing Unit at Petrobras, brought an important reflection on the surplus in supply. “Our scenario today is about how to build demand to match the increased supply of gas. Turning this into business and generating revenue is our main challenge,” Cardoso stated.

Complementing the technical perspective, ANP director Symone Araújo, during the panel “Natural gas market,” emphasized the need for regulatory security and competitiveness for gas to assume its definitive role in the energy transition, highlighting the debate on monopoly regulation as a central pillar.

“We face the challenge of making gas competitive and, above all, discussing monopoly regulation. Certainly, any energy transition planning in the coming years will consider the participation of gas,” she highlighted.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to suppliers. Executives from Petrobras, Ocyan, TBG, and PRIO discussed procurement requirements and market access channels.

Petrobras’ Manager of Supplier Performance and Qualification and Supply, Luciano Bastos, revealed that the company currently maintains an active base of around 3,700 suppliers, reinforcing the use of the Supplier Channel and the Petronect platform as entry points.

The day concluded with a presentation by Heloísa Borges, Director of Oil, Gas and Biofuels Studies at EPE. “For a long time, the energy sector was viewed in a very isolated way. Twenty years ago, if someone said they worked with energy, it was not seen as something sufficient. Today, we all work with energy in its many facets, because industry and the world have changed. We have seen in practice the integration between sectors and different technologies,” she emphasized.
